In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, the Malden Fire and Police Departments will be holding the City’s First Annual Public Safety Day on Sunday, October 7th from 10 AM – 2 PM at Linden Park, 29 Wescott Street. Fire Prevention Week is a time that all are encouraged to recognize the dangers that can occur in the places we feel the safest. This year’s theme is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware – fire can happen anywhere.” The theme urges all to be aware and “look” for the places fire can start, “listen” for the sound of the smoke alarm and “learn” two ways out of each room.
Families and residents are encouraged to attend the free event for some fun and interactive ways to learn more about fire safety. Activities will include Fire Engines and a DPW bucket truck for a “touch a truck” event, a State Police arson dog demonstration, an obstacle course and smoke house as well as safety themed bouncy houses, pumpkin decorating, face painting and games. There will also be a DJ, a photo booth, safety literature, goody bags and refreshments.
Event sponsors include Cataldo Ambulance, Malden Housing Authority, Malden DPW, Massachusetts State Police, Ward 8 Councillor Jadeane Sica, Jr. Aid Association of Malden and Stop & Shop.
